Sororidad – A Warm Look Back at Sisterhood

Is there anything more beautiful than when women lift each other up? Now that we have put another year behind us, I found myself browsing through the photo archive from last November. I stopped at the pictures from the fantastic MEMBA gala at the Casa de Cultura here in Alfaz del Pi. What a day, and what an atmosphere! It reminded me of exactly why we do what we do here at Casa de Lana – creating meeting places.

November 29th, 2025, was a very special Saturday. While we usually sit with our knitting in our laps and something good in our glasses here in the lounge, on this day we swapped the knitting needles for applause and celebration. The stage was set for the sixth edition of Premios MEMBA – an award ceremony honoring female entrepreneurs and the amazing talent found here on the Costa Blanca.

The theme of the year was "Sororidad" – or sisterhood. It hit me right in the heart. Isn't that exactly what we experience around the table here at Casa de Lana too?

The show itself was an experience full of magic, dance, and performing arts, just as the poster promised. Seeing the stage filled with proud, skilled women of all ages reminded me of the power that lives in our community. Seeing local women being acclaimed for their drive and creativity gives so much inspiration back to us who run small businesses.

Even though we love our quiet moments with balls of yarn and good conversation, it is incredibly important to get out and participate in such arenas. It ties us closer to the local community here in Alfaz, and it gives us new impulses that we take back to the shop.

The response following the event was also so warm. It is clear that many of us appreciate seeing female talent being highlighted – whether it is on a big stage or through the craftsmanship we create with our hands every single day.
